Finland´s Independence and the History of the Mark

Finland became independent on December 6, 1917. With this significant event, Finland gained the opportunity to develop its own culture, economy, and politics as an independent nation. Establishing itself on the international stage, Finland introduced its own currency, the Finnish markka, which served as the official currency until 1999. The markka was a central part of the Finnish economy and its use helped to solidify the economic foundation of the independent state.

Over time, the markka underwent many changes, adapting to both post-war challenges and developments in the international economy. In 1999, Finland transitioned to the euro, marking the end of the markka era. Today, however, it can be said that the markka was an important symbol of Finland's independence and national identity.
